Where does the tour start? Where does it end?

ROCKRIDGE NEIGHBORHOOD HERITAGE TOUR: Please meet outside the Oakland Public Library Rockridge Branch – 5366 College Avenue. Your tour guide will meet you there. Click here to view a map. GRAND LAKE CULTURAL CUISINE TOUR: Please meet outside the Pergola at Lake Merritt – 599 El Embarcadero, Oakland. Your tour guide will meet you there. Click here to view a map. ROCKRIDGE ICE CREAM TOUR: Please meet in front of the Dryer’s Ice Cream Parlor & Cafe – 5925 College Avenue. Your tour guide will meet you there. Click here to view a map. Is there parking near the start of the tour?

ROCKRIDGE NEIGHBORHOOD HERITAGE TOUR: Yes. There is street parking in the neighborhood around the Rockridge branch of the Oakland Public Library.  On Sundays, there is free parking at the Rockridge BART station. Please keep aware of local parking restrictions and plan for extra time to find parking, if needed.

GRAND LAKE CULTURE CUISINE TOUR: Yes. There is paid parking in the lot underneath the MacArthur Freeway (I-580) overpass between Grand and Lakeshore Avenues. Please keep aware of local parking restrictions and plan for extra time to find parking, if needed.

ROCKRIDGE ICE CREAM TOUR: Yes. On Sundays, there is free parking at the Rockridge BART station. Please keep aware of local parking restrictions and plan for extra time to find parking, if needed.

Will I be hungry/stuffed after the tour?

Our goal is to leave you adequately satisfied by the end of the tour. As part of a “progressive eating” experience, we hope to serve enough food that for most guests, a full meal immediately before or after is not necessary. That being said, due to the amount of walking you may want to consider eating a light breakfast or snack beforehand.

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay cash?

Tickets must be purchased in advance so that we know how many guests to expect and make the most of your experience. To maximize your chances of getting the day, time, and number of tickets you prefer, please book in advance. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling (510) 604-6546 up two hours prior to the start of the tour. Cash and/or walk-up traffic the day of the tour are not accepted.

How do I redeem my LivingSocial/Groupon coupon(s)?

LivingSocial/Groupon coupons can be redeemed online or by calling (510) 604-6546. Please make sure you enter the numerical code provided by LivingSocial/Groupon for each individual guest.

Please note that you do not need to take your tour by your voucher expiration date; you just need to book by that date. Tours booked after the expiration date will be credited the amount paid for your LivingSocial/Groupon voucher (i.e. the remaining balance will be due upon booking).

If I need to cancel my scheduled tour can I request a refund?

Once purchased, all tickets and payments are non-refundable, but may be rescheduled for another tour date with at least 48 hours notice. Tours cancelled by the Local Food Adventures will be rescheduled. For any out-of-area guests, refunds may be given at the discretion of the tour company.

What if I’m not eating? Do I still need to pay?

Yes. All guests must purchase a ticket. Infants and children under three who will not be eating do not need to pay.

Can I bring children on the tour?

Local Food Adventures food tours are a great way to spend the day together as a family. We ask that you please be mindful of our other guests. The tour consists of a considerable time walking, standing and (hopefully) paying attention. You know your child(ren) best. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

If a food tour is sold out, can I get on a waiting list?

There is not a waiting list for Local Food Adventures food tours. If there is a date that works best for you or your group that is not currently offered, please see our information regarding booking Private Group Tours.

Can I book a private group tour?

Are gift cards available?

How much walking is involved?

Although Rockridge and Grand Lake are located along the Berkeley and Oakland Hills, our tour locations are found in relatively flat neighborhoods. Guests should expect to be either standing or walking during the majority of our tours. There will, however, be opportunities to sit down during the tour.

Is the tour wheelchair and baby stroller accessible?

Our food tour neighborhoods are known as being a very family-friendly locales where a number of residents do have strollers and wheelchairs. Our route will take us predominantly on flat surfaces, but please keep in mind that we will be walking along normal city sidewalks. All of our tasting stops are stroller and wheelchair accessible.

What types of foods are served on the tour?

From a top-rated morning bun to the first flavor to revolutionize the ice cream world to the most authentic example of southern-Italian pizza outside of the Naples, Local Food Adventures brings you a sample of foods that would make up any East Bay foodie’s perfect eating day. What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Local Food Adventures encourages our guests to explore new foods. While we do try to accommodate most dietary restrictions, please know that there are some foods that can not be avoided (i.e. cheese on pizza, gluten in ice cream sandwiches, vegetarian/vegan at local butcher stop). But please let us know if you or anyone in your group has any dietary restrictions when you purchase your tickets as we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Only advanced notifications made while booking may be accommodated.

FOR NEIGHBORHOOD HERITAGE TOUR: Gluten-free option is available for an additional charge to be paid separately at the time of the tour.

(Zachary’s gluten-free option comes only in a thin-crust 11″ pie (not individual slices) starting at $15 / Additional topping: $1.80 – not including tax)

Are any beverages served on the tour?

Please consider bringing a water bottle or other beverage, if necessary.  No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the tour.

Should I take the tour if I live in the area?

Of course! There is so much rich history here in the Bay Area. Local Food Adventures is a great way to feel part of your neighborhood as well as provide you a unique and fun experience without having to travel too far from home.

When should I take a food tour?

If you are new to the area or visiting our neighborhood for the first time, it would be a great idea to take our food tours at the beginning of your time here. This will give you a great overview on places you may want to try for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as give you the opportunity to return to your favorite food tasting locations.

Are cameras allowed on the tour?

Can I shop during the tour?

In order to make for a memorable experience for both you and our tasting location partners, we do allow shopping at some locations, but not at others. This allows us to stay on schedule and end at the proper time so that you can further explore our tour neighborhoods.

What happens if it rains?

Our food tours will be held during light sprinkles or shower. So, please check the weather forecast prior to your tour and dress appropriately. Some tours will be cancelled for severe weather alerts. Local Food Adventures will contact you at least 24 hours ahead of time if your tour is cancelled and you will be able to reschedule.

Are tours offered only in English?

Yes. We only offer tours in English at this time.

Are bathrooms available during the tour?

Yes, bathrooms are available during the tour at select tasting locations.

Does the tour guide accept gratuities?

Gratuities are greatly appreciated. The standard gratuity in the service industry is 15%-20% (About $10 per guest).
