Nut Free Ice Cream Tours Available for Kids of All Ages

Local Food Adventures to provide #TealTakeover tours so locals with food allergies can enjoy the food tour experience

LAFAYETTE, CA – (June 7) – I scream. You scream. We all now scream for ice cream! That’s the truth when it comes to Local Food Adventures and its Rockridge Ice Cream & Gelato Tour. The local food tour company is now offering exclusive tours for those with food allergies, specifically nuts and lactose.

The Rockridge Ice Cream & Gelato Tour has always offered alternatives for guests with allergies since the tour’s start in 2015. But to increase awareness and to show solidarity for the #TealTakeover movement spearheaded by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) , Local Food Adventures is hosting monthly tours specific to those with nut allergies and lactose intolerance.

“It’s always pained me to hear parents say that they or their child felt like they couldn’t come and enjoy our Ice Cream & Gelato Tour because of an allergy,” Lauren McCabe Herpich, owner of Local Food Adventures, says. “All kids should feel included and be able to enjoy this sweet treat with family and friends!”

The Rockridge Ice Cream & Gelato Tour is a one-hour tour that takes guests to three sweet spots along College Avenue in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland. Guests with nut allergies will be able to sample ice cream flavors free of nuts and those with lactose intolerance will be treated to either sorbets or soy-based ice creams. In addition to enjoying the tasty treats, the Ice Cream & Gelato Tour includes a little history on how we come to enjoy them.

“I think it will pleasantly surprise many of our nut-free guests that one of the ice creams tasted on the tour has a really cool cultural significance locally and globally,” McCabe Herpich says.

Tours run most Saturdays and Sundays at 3 pm thru October with special #TealTakeover exclusive tours monthly on:

  • Saturday, June 24

  • Sunday, July 16

  • Saturday, August 19

  • Sunday, September 10

  • Sunday, October 22

The Rockridge Ice Cream & Gelato Tour is currently offered for all guests at $15 for adults and $10 for kids ages 12 and younger. Private tours perfect for birthday parties or summer outings are also available upon request.

For questions about specific nut allergies and concerns, guests should not hesitate to contact Local Food Adventures prior to booking a tour via email at info@localfoodadventures.com or phone: 510-604-6546.

Moms are superheroes who deserve to be celebrated every year—but especially this year, as they have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to CBS News , women lost one million more jobs than men during the pandemic, and the year also highlighted the lack of affordable childcare options. Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 9th this year, couldn’t be a better day to celebrate your mom and give her a special gift to make sure she knows how much you cherish her.
