Summer Intern Virtual Event Ideas

Amanda Young • May 18, 2021

Summer intern season will be starting in just a few short weeks. If you’ve opted to continue your academic or professional development, or if you are a summer internship program coordinator, here’s a list of fun virtual event ideas to help the group bond and keep them engaged, especially if they are working remotely.

1. Ice Cream Social

I scream, you scream, we all scream for…ice cream! Ice cream is a summer staple, and with Local Food Adventures’ Virtual Ice Cream Social , all of the logistics will be covered for your summer intern event. Each intern will receive a Sweets & Smiles Ice Cream Gift Box shipped directly to them, and you’ll be able to come together to experience a password-protected online adventure.

2. Game Night

Bring your summer interns’ competitive spirits alive through a fun game night. You can play games like Skribbl.io (sort of like Pictionary) or PSYCH! (a game played on your phone in which each person submits a fake answer to a trivia question and tries to trick their competitors into believing it is true) for free. These games will help your interns stay engaged and connected, while having a fun time together!

3. Escape Room

If you’re looking to build teamwork skills as part of your summer internship program, you might want to try out a Virtual Escape Room Adventure. You’ll log into Zoom with a host, who will give you instructions, and a game guide, who will be in the escape room with a live video stream. You’ll be able to work out clues and watch videos to try to escape the room in less than an hour.

4. Talent Show

Maybe one of your interns can sing the alphabet backwards while doing a handstand, and maybe another knows how to play the flute while hula hooping. You won’t know any of these things unless you host a virtual intern talent show! You can have the performers put on their acts live, or you can have them take a video of themselves compile the clips into a presentation to show on Zoom.

5. Campfire

Is there anything more quintessentially summer than a campfire with s’mores and ghost stories? While you may not be able to bring your team together for an in-person event, you can still host a campfire thanks to tiny campfire🔥 , an online company that runs 90-minute virtual campfires for teams. You’ll receive a kit with a scented candle and wood matches, to truly get you in the summer campfire spirit, as well as ingredients for s’mores and a link to a special video conference room.

6. Coffee Chats

Many interns today do more than get coffee, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t enjoy a virtual small-group coffee hangout! Each person can brew themselves a cup of coffee (or tea!), or you can send them a small stipend or gift card to get a drink from a local shop. Then, use Zoom or Donut , which is a great platform for more casual conversations, to let your summer interns connect.

7. Take a Trip to Paris

Yes, you read that correctly! If your interns have been bitten by the travel bug, Woyago’s virtual tours, which take you through the streets of Paris and include interactive games and activities, may be perfect.

8. Brownie Bake Off

We all fell in love with The Great British Baking Show during quarantine, and now is your chance to host your own bake off with your group of interns. With Local Food Adventures’ Virtual Brownie Bake Off , all interns receive a Hella Yummy Baking Box, complete with ingredients that pay tribute to Bay Area flavors and culture. This food event is perfect for your interns with food allergies, too, as the included brownie mix is vegan and gluten-free, and all the items are packaged separately.

Moms are superheroes who deserve to be celebrated every year—but especially this year, as they have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to CBS News , women lost one million more jobs than men during the pandemic, and the year also highlighted the lack of affordable childcare options. Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 9th this year, couldn’t be a better day to celebrate your mom and give her a special gift to make sure she knows how much you cherish her.
