COVID-19 Update: Current Food Tour Status as of 3/9/20

Local Food Adventures • Mar 13, 2020

As a small business in the Oakland and East Bay community, I want to reach out to let you know what we are all doing to ensure the health and safety of our food tour guests, my tour guides and our tour stop partners during this concern regarding COVID-19.

We understand that with uncertainty around the Coronavirus, many of you are rethinking your travel and social plans, especially as the  quarantined Princess cruise ships docks at the Port of Oakland. We want to take this opportunity to also share our thoughts on the current status and let you know our flexible booking options to bring you added peace of mind.

What we are currently doing:

  • Before every tour, our tour guides and guests will have the opportunity to do a thorough hand washing.
  • Guests and guides will also have the opportunity to wash their hands throughout the tour.
  • We are providing hand sanitizer that our tour guides will carry with us that contain at least 60% isopropyl alcohol.
  • As always, I am ensuring that no tour guide is sick when leading a tour.
  • We are keeping well informed by checking and following best practices and recommendations by the  Centers for Disease Control  and the  California Department of Public Health.

What we know:

  • Currently there are no travel restrictions for domestic travel within the U.S.
  • Our tours are walking on foot and predominantly outdoors, we are not confined to tight quarters like a tour bus or cruise ship. They are also relatively small.
  • According to the  California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services , major precautions are being taken to safely disembark the passengers of the Princess cruise ship being docked at the Port of Oakland and get them to secure quarantine sites.

Your options:

  • If you are already booked and are sick or have concerns about taking a food tour at this time, please  contact us. We will happily get you rebooked for a time you are well again and can fully enjoy your Local Food Adventure, especially if you are local.
  • Use promo code “GUESTLOVE” to save 20% off any tour or gift certificate this year! Gift certificates are a great option for securing a discount today without the pressure of deciding exact dates and details. And it always makes for a great gift for the foodies in your life!
  • When you’re ready, consider booking a  private event  for you, your team, or group of friends, especially if it makes you feel more comfortable.

A solution:

If you already had international travel plans and are thinking of canceling, please consider having a staycation and travel local instead. If you’re not going to travel abroad then please travel locally as much as you comfortably feel. Support the small, local tourism companies in your area and help keep them in business during this trying time … plus, I’m sure you’ll learn (and eat) something new and want to go back!

Moms are superheroes who deserve to be celebrated every year—but especially this year, as they have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to CBS News , women lost one million more jobs than men during the pandemic, and the year also highlighted the lack of affordable childcare options. Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 9th this year, couldn’t be a better day to celebrate your mom and give her a special gift to make sure she knows how much you cherish her.
