Local Food Adventures teams up with restaurant newcomer Bardo Supper Club & Lounge and the historic Grand Lake Theater to create a memorable Oakland experience

OAKLAND, CA – (March 21) – Want to enjoy a perfect Saturday in Oakland? Look no further than the Grand Lake neighborhood. Local Food Adventures is expanding its Grand Lake Cultural Cuisine Tour, recently named by National Geographic as THE “how to go” activity in Oakland , by adding hip restaurant newcomer Bardo Supper Club & Lounge and teaming up with the historic Grand Lake Theater to create a “Perfect Saturday in Oakland” afternoon – and evening – experience.

Once a two-hour, four-stop tour, the Grand Lake Cultural Cuisine Food Tour will now take guests on a three-hour, five-stop guided historical food tour of this vibrant neighborhood. Guests will continue to enjoy delicious tastes from:

  • Colonial Donuts, Oakland’s 24-hour donut shop, recently named one of the top 10 donut shops in the West by Sunset Magazine
  • local samba-filled favorite Cana Cuban Parlor & Cafe
  • small Bay Area beer distributor-focused Aisle 5 pub, which also recently joined the tour in January
  • Oaktown Spice Shop, named one of Food & Wine Magazine ’s Top 10 spice shops in the entire world

Guests of the Grand Lake Cultural Cuisine Tour explore Oaktown Spice Shop, one of Food & Wine Magazine’s Top 10 Spice Shops in the World.

You’ll now also enjoy a modern take on mid-century favorites during a private reserved seating at Bardo Supper Club & Lounge. Here, guests will take in a truly unique dining experience as they are transported back to the 1950s through food, cocktails and expertly curated surroundings.

“With such a remarkable and unexpected honor from National Geographic , I want to expand the tour to create a full-on experience that further highlights this special area of Oakland,” Local Food Adventures founder and owner Lauren McCabe Herpich says. “Dinner at Bardo is one of the most thought-through dining experiences I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy.”

“We are excited to be included in the “Perfect Saturday in Grand Lake” tour. Bardo is all about sharing home-entertaining style hospitality with our neighbors. Our mid-century lounge and dining room are designed for folks to relax and celebrate life with great food, great drinks and great people.  It’s our way of honoring our community and joining the ranks of many local establishments committed to Oakland’s well being.”

“Bardo is a great example of the unexpected gems that make up Oakland, a lot like what you experience at the Grand Lake Theater. You don’t find places like this everywhere.”

Speaking of, paying guests also have the option of adding discounted general admission tickets to the Grand Lake Theater as part of their tour reservation. Instead of the usual price of $11 per ticket, guests of the Grand Lake Cultural Cuisine Tour can enjoy a Saturday night show, including a pre-movie performance of the theater’s original Wurlitzer Organ, for only $9.50 each.

Meet your tour at the iconic Grand Lake Theater and learn more about its history while enjoying a tasty treat.

“The Grand Lake neighborhood is such a vibrant place, especially on Saturdays,” Grand Lake Theater owner Allen Michaan says. “By partnering with Local Food Adventures, we know that more people will come to enjoy more of what this community has to offer – a great afternoon and evening filled with food, fun and film.”
