Tilden Little Farm is a great place for little animal-lovers and truly one of the East Bay’s hidden gems. Here, there are many exciting animals to visit including cows, goats, rabbits, pigs, and chickens! You can feed the animals by hand, so make sure to bring some celery or lettuce with you. Right nearby, you can go for a short walk, check out at the play area, or visit the nature center.
The Oakland Zoo is home to over 750 native and exotic animals including elephants, lions, frogs, parrots, and turtles! With 7 different habitats to visit, including the new California Trail, the Oakland Zoo is guaranteed to make an unforgettable day-trip for the kids. Nothing is quite like a family-friendly bike ride with beautiful scenery. Alameda Bicycle offers a variety of options including well-paced family rides for kids of all ages and a fitness ride you can do with older children. If you prefer, self-guided rides are always an option. So grab your bike, buckle your helmet, and get ready for a thrilling bike ride along the beach!
Although a bit farther off the map, a visit to the Jelly Belly Factory gives you the opportunity to learn about the process of jelly bean making. With both guided and self-guided tours, you’ll make your way along the walkways that provide a great view of the factory below. There are also interactive exhibits, an amazing gift shop, and free candy samples, making this one sweet activity you will not want to miss.
What exactly goes on above and beyond planet Earth? Find out at the Chabot Space and Science Center , which features interactive exhibits, simulations, and creative spaces, as well as a planetarium show and an observatory. Children of all ages will be able to discover new things about stars, planets, technology, and all things space. This museum is truly out of this world!
