Oakland’s First “Ghost” Food Tour Announced

Local Food Adventures’ newest East Bay Halloween Activity starts Friday, October 5

LAFAYETTE, CA – (September 12) – Just in time for the annual East Bay Halloween activity season!  Local Food Adventures announces a spook-tacular tour filled with tricks and some unforgettably delicious treats. The Oakland Sweets Spirits and The Beyond Food Tour is not your typical Oakland ghost tour. This 90-minute walking tour highlights the final resting place for some of the Bay Area and California’s most famous and infamous residents while also enjoying tastes of the area’s best desserts and drink.

The tour takes guests on a respectful tour of Julia Morgan’s Chapel of the Chimes columbarium and mausoleum and Piedmont Funeral Services at Mountain View Cemetery to learn the area’s dead history – with a decidedly spooky seasonal twist.

“When you walk through these sacred spaces, you truly feel like you can hear the voices of the deceased whisper to you,” Lauren McCabe Herpich, founder and owner of Local Food Adventures says. “I absolutely love Halloween in Oakland and the East Bay and thought this would be a fun, seasonal way to showcase these Oakland treasures in our truly unique food tour way.”

It’s a not-to-be-missed opportunity to enjoy tastes of the area’s culinary best while immersing yourself in the true “spirit” of Oakland. Guests must be 21 years and older and will enjoy ghoulishly sweet red velvet cupcakes from La Farine Boulangerie Patisserie and a toast at the nearby Kona Club to the life of Victor “Trader Vic” Bergeron, the local credited in creating the tropical mai tai cocktail. Bergeron is entombed at Mountain View Cemetery.

In true pumpkin spice latte spirit, this tour is seasonal and only offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 4 pm in October on the following dates:

Friday, October 5
Saturday, October 6
Sunday, October 7
Friday, October 12
Saturday, October 13

Moms are superheroes who deserve to be celebrated every year—but especially this year, as they have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to CBS News , women lost one million more jobs than men during the pandemic, and the year also highlighted the lack of affordable childcare options. Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 9th this year, couldn’t be a better day to celebrate your mom and give her a special gift to make sure she knows how much you cherish her.
